In 2012, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed March 21st as International Day of Forests. The Day celebrates and raises awareness of the importance of all types of forests.

The mushroom photos were taken at Puzzlewood, a unique and uniquely enchanting place located in the beautiful and historic Forest of Dean. The ancient woodland features a mile of meandering pathways and rock formations, with an atmosphere unlike anywhere else. Indeed, it’s believed that JRR Tolkien took his inspiration for Middle Earth from Puzzlewood.

We came across the fallen tree roots, which look to me like fire carved in wood, in Lynches Wood while walking the beginning of the Cotswold Way. This delightful circular walk leads you from the charmingly English market town of Chipping Campden, through shaded woodlands and past breathtaking views. A wonderful introduction to the Cotswolds, and a perfect start to the Cotswold Way.
